Astragalus rhizanthus Benth. is a stemless perennial herb or subshrub, belonging to the Fabaceae (Pea) family, native to the temperate regions of the Himalayas. It is characterized by its hairy appearance, with pinnate leaves that have up to 28 pairs of small leaflets. The flowers are typically yellow and grow in dense racemes, while the pods are densely silky and up to 2 cm long.

Habit: Perennial, usually stemless or with woody, persistent stems, Leaves: Pinnately compound, up to 28 pairs of elliptic to oblong hairy leaflets, especially hairy beneath, Stipules: Up to 15 mm, with ciliate margins, Flowers: Yellow, arranged in dense racemes of 3–5 flowers; corolla up to 2.5 cm; calyx up to 15 mm, Pod: Densely silky, up to 2 cm long, Root: Thick and woody rootstock, growing singly or in tufts.

Distribution and Habitat
Native Range: Himalayas, distributed from Jammu and Kashmir to Uttarakhand, India; also reported from northeastern Afghanistan, Xinjiang (China), and the Western and Central Himalaya.

Habitat: Found on sandy slopes and gravelly riverbeds at altitudes of 1200–3000 meters

If anyone has any kind of fever whether caused by a cold or accompanied by body ache then crush the leaves and twigs (dry or fresh) of Rudravanti and prepare a decoction to drink. This will help reduce the fever and also relieve weakness and fatigue in the body.

If someone is suffering from extreme weakness or physical debility, prepare a powder of Shatavari, Ashwagandha, and Rudravanti and give it for consumption. This helps to overcome physical weakness and restore strength and vitality.

Mothers who do not produce enough milk or have low milk flow should take a small amount of Rudravanti along with Shatavari and Ashwagandha to increase milk production. This remedy is very effective for breastfeeding mothers.

If a person is suffering from diabetes and their hands or feet have started decaying, or if there is a condition of gangrene, then a decoction made from Rudravanti is very beneficial. Taking Rudravanti powder with water or using it as a decoction helps the gangrene affected area start to heal.
