It is found in all provinces, mostly planted in gardens. Sometimes, it is also seen growing wild around settlements. It has two types, blue and white, based on the flower variety, and many different varieties are found in gardening.

Its root possesses purgative (bhedan), diuretic (mutral), and analgesic (vedanasthapan) properties. It also induces emesis (vomiting). Along with vomiting, abdominal pain occurs, followed by purgation. Sometimes vomiting may not occur. Its seeds act like jalap (a strong purgative), but they are milder purgatives and slightly diuretic. For purgation, the seeds are used along with dry ginger (shunthi) and rock salt (saindhava).

It is used for enhancing intellect, as well as in abdominal disorders, respiratory ailments (kapha disorders), fever, urinary diseases, goiter, glandular swellings, indigestion, edema, eye diseases, insanity, rheumatoid conditions, leprosy, and poisoning.

In all types of ascites (jalodara), it is used for purgation, which helps in the elimination of toxins.

In spermatorrhea, cystitis, and dysuria, a decoction of its root is administered.

In cough and asthma of children, its seeds are roasted, powdered, mixed with a little jaggery and rock salt, and given; this expels phlegm with stools and provides relief. For kapha disorders, the root is given with milk.

Ardhavbhedak (a type of headache/sinus disorder), nasal administration (nasya) of the fresh juice of white Aparajita root is done.

The fresh juice of its leaves, mixed with moistening juice, is given to stop excessive sweating. In skin diseases, a decoction of the leaves is administered. For swelling and enlargement of glands around the ear, the leaves are ground with rock salt and applied externally.

In snake poisoning, the bark of its root, along with Nirgundi root-bark, is ground in water and administered, which is beneficial.
