Asthwarg (अष्टवर्ग) is a special group of eight rare medicinal herbs that hold immense significance in Ayurveda and traditional Himalayan medicine. These plants are considered highly rejuvenating (Rasayana) and are mainly found in the high-altitude regions of the Himalayas, especially in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Nepal, and Tibet. Kakoli is one of these plants which comes under Ashtawarga

Kakoli is cooling in nature, aphrodisiac, sweet, heavy, and nutritive (promotes tissue growth). It alleviates vata, burning sensation, disorders of blood and pitta and fever

At present, none of the Ashtawarg herbs are found in their genuine form. Although many firms are selling Ashtawarg, among them the “Ashtawarg Office, Dehradun” is well known; yet, upon examination and comparison with the scriptures, none of them prove to be authentic. In the absence of Ashtawarg, Ashwagandha is used in place of Kakoli.
